Opmerkelijk eigenlijk dat er soms zoveel interessant onderzoek gebeurt, maar zo vaak “verkeerde” conclusies getrokken worden. Verkeerd vanuit my point of view dan. Het onderzoek en de boeken van Erich von Däniken, Graham Hancock en Robert Bauval brengen vaak interessante ontdekkingen betreffende de Egyptische, Azteekse en andere oude beschavingen aan het licht of werpen een nieuw licht op oude ontdekkingen. Maar hun conclusies in de richting van aliens en Atlantis kunnen een kritisch denker minder beroeren. Net zo met de romans van Dan Brown (die toch voor een deel op onderzoek steunen) en de gelijkaardige studies van bvb Laurence Gardner (“De Erfopvolgers van de Graal”). Of een perfect voorbeeld “The Tainted Source: the undemocratic origins of the European Idea” van John Laughland. Het boek dat de aanleiding was voor het idee mijn thesis “In het nieuwe Europa: de Europese gedachte bij Nieuwe Orde en collaboratiebewegingen in Vlaanderen (1933-1945)”. Laughland maakt een scherpe en duidelijke analyse van de Europese gedachte bij het nazisme en het fascisme. Een historisch feit dat jammergenoeg vroeger en nu nog altijd wordt stilgezwegen door fervente europeanen. Na mijn onderzoek onderschreef ik ten volle de stelling van Laughland dat er bij het nazisme en fascisme een wijdverspreide Europese gedachte leefde die op sommige vlakken niet veel verschilde van de Europese gedachte en integratie na de oorlog, ja zelfs tot op heden. Het verschil tussen Laughland en mezelve (niet dat ik mij op dezelfde hoogte als deze briljante historicus wil plaatsen, au contraire) is niet alleen dat ik een overtuigd Europees federalist (en regionalist) ben en hij een fervent euroscepticus, maar dat ik het als een historisch feit as such beschouw, terwijl hij het als wapen gebruikt in zijn strijd tegen Europa en in absurdo parallellen trekt tussen de Europese integratie van nu en de Europäische Grossraumwirtschaft van Hitler. Prachtig onderzoek, schitterende resultaten, maar (in mijn ogen) verkeerde conclusies, … just a thought of the day
